The Advisory Committee recalled that the General Assembly approved a total appropriation of 7,677,200 under section 3, Peacekeeping operations and special missions, of the programme budget for the biennium 1998 1999 and approved for the same period an appropriation of 596,100 under section 32, Staff assessment, offset by a corresponding amount in the estimate of income under income section 1, Income from staff assessment.

In the case of UNDOF and UNIFIL, the income budget line is broken down into staff assessment income and other income, and it has been the usual practice of the General Assembly to return the estimated other income to Member States when approving an annual appropriation for those operations.

The Committee also notes that an additional appropriation of 2,465,700 would be required under section 32, Staff assessment, to be offset by a corresponding amount under income section 1, Income from staff assessment.

11. Should the General Assembly adopt draft resolution A 52 L.31, an additional appropriation of 173,800 would be required under section 3 of the proposed programme budget for the biennium 1998 1999. An additional appropriation of 32,300 would also be required under section 32, Staff assessment, to be offset by a corresponding amount under Income section 1, Income from staff assessment.

23. The revised 1998 resource requirements for the Registry amount to 45,441,100 gross ( 42,104,200 net of staff assessment and rental income), reflecting an increase of 1,091,900 gross ( 1,055,600 net of staff assessment and other income) over the 1997 appropriation of 44,349,200 gross ( 41,048,600 net of staff assessment and other income).

IV. ACTION REQUIRED OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 11.
