DENMARK, ITALY and TURKEY will withdraw from the Board effective 1 January 1998 and will be replaced, respectively, by SWEDEN for a term expiring on 31 December 1998, GREECE for a term expiring on 31 December 1999 and FRANCE for a term expiring on 31 December 1998.

CANADA, FRANCE and NORWAY will withdraw from the Board effective 1 January 1998 and will be replaced, respectively, by AUSTRALIA for a term expiring on 31 December 1999, GERMANY for a term expiring on 31 December 1998 and DENMARK for a term expiring on 31 December 1999.

COLOMBIA was elected for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1999.

FINLAND withdrew from the Board and was replaced by DENMARK for a term expiring on 31 December 1998.

THAILAND was elected for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2000.

GAMBIA was elected for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1999.

Italy was nominated for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1999.

In its report submitted in 2003, it reported 2088 mines with a shelf life expiring on 1 August 2002, (the UK is currently working towards their destruction), 1028 mines with a shelf life expiring on 1 August 2010 and 1783 mines of foreign manufacture.

The PHILIPPINES was elected for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1999.

CANADA withdrew from the Board and was replaced by NEW ZEALAND for a term expiring on 31 December 1998.

COMMISSION ON HUMAN SETTLEMENTS BENIN and the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES were elected for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1999 INDONESIA and VENEZUELA were elected for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2000.

GERMANY and LEBANON were elected for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1999.

COMMITTEE FOR PROGRAMME AND COORDINATION ITALY was nominated for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1999.

The Council elected Sweden to fill a postponed vacancy for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2008.

In accordance with article 4, paragraph 2, of the statute, the person so appointed will serve for a period expiring on 31 December 2008.

SWITZERLAND will withdraw from the Board effective 1 January 1998 and will be replaced by CANADA for a term expiring on 31 December 1998.

In its report submitted in 2000, it reported 2088 mines with a shelf life expiring on 1 August 2002, 1056 mines with a shelf life expiring on 1 August 2010, the inert shapes have been taken off the total since they don't fall under the Convention's definition of a mine and 1375 mines of foreign manufacture.

b The Council postponed to a future session the election of two members from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2000 and one member for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2001 (decision 1998 202 B).

The Council postponed to a future session the election of one member from African States and two members from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1997 and one member from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1996.

The Council elected Antigua and Barbuda and Haiti to fill postponed vacancies for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2008.

The Council further postponed the election of one member from Asian States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2008.

The Council elected Haiti to fill a postponed vacancy on the Committee for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2006.

By paragraph 5 of resolution 1552 (2004) of 27 July 2004, the Security Council re established the Group of Experts for a period expiring on 31 January 2005.

The Council also postponed to a future session the election of one member from African States and two members from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1997 and one member from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1996.

The Council also postponed to a future session the election of one member from African States and two members from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1997 and one member from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 1996 (decision 1996 298).

As a result, OIOS, on 16 December 1997, recommended that the Registry renew neither the consultancy nor the staff member s contract, both of which were expiring in December 1997.

The Council appointed Maria Jonas (Austria), Noëlie Kangoye (Burkina Faso) and Mona Chemali Khalaf (Lebanon) for a term beginning on the date of appointment and expiring on 30 June 1999.

The Council elected Lebanon to fill a postponed vacancy for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring at the close of the Commission's thirty ninth session, in 2006.

Inspector Thomas had been appointed by the General Assembly on 6 June 2003 for a five year term of office, beginning on 1 January 2004 and expiring on 31 December 2008.

ff The Council postponed the election of one member from Asian States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2008 (decision 2005 201 B).

The issue of expiring terms of the commissioners must be dealt with urgently and through a process that takes into account the political sensitivities and the legal complexities of the present situation.

Gambia Elected at the 55th meeting, on 14 November 1996, for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on a date to be determined by lot (decision 1996 317).

The UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND will withdraw from the Board effective 1 January 1998 and will be replaced by SWEDEN for a term expiring on 31 December 1998.
