It welcomed the report of the Joint Inspection Unit (A 60 34) and the progress made by the Unit since the adoption of General Assembly resolution 59 267.

The Joint Inspection Unit was to present the report to the General Assembly in the fall of 2005.

24. Reaffirms that the working languages of the General Assembly are those of the Unit, in application of article 51 of the rules of procedure of the Assembly, and also reaffirms that the working languages of the Secretariat of the United Nations are those of the secretariat of the Unit, in application of Assembly resolution 2 (I) of 1 February 1946

The Assembly decided that the Unit should perform its functions and responsibilities strictly in accordance with the provisions of its statute.

14. Requests the Unit to report to the General Assembly, in its next annual report, on the implementation of the present resolution.

The Assembly later requested that the Special Unit be redesignated as the Division for Palestinian Rights, with an expanded mandate of work.

In its resolution 59 267, the General Assembly reaffirmed paragraph 2 of article 11 of the statute of the Unit and requested that the Unit, as a whole, take responsibility in the exercise of its collective wisdom with regard to all its reports, notes and recommendations, in order to improve the effectiveness of the Unit.

The Unit submits an annual report on its activities to the General Assembly and to the competent legislative organs of its other participating organizations.

They expressed concern that the majority of posts in the SIDS unit and SIDS Net continue to be funded from voluntary resources and called for further strengthening of the SIDS Unit and SIDS Network (SIDSNET) as prescribed by the General Assembly in resolutions 57 261, 58 213 and 59 229 to enable the Unit to effectively fulfill its mandate.

In its resolution 54 16 of 29 October 1999, the General Assembly emphasized the need for effective follow up to reports of the Joint Inspection Unit.

The last optional parameter unit sets the unit for the coordinate system.

In paragraph 29 of that resolution, the Assembly noted that the Administrative Law Unit had the multiple functions of administrative review, appeals, disciplinary matters and advisory services.

The General Assembly invited the Committee, in performing its programmatic, coordination, monitoring and evaluation functions, as contained in its mandate, to consider relevant reports of the Unit.

Their activities are primarily targeted at the specialized units of the Timorese police, which include the Police Reserve Unit, the Rapid Intervention Unit and the Marine Unit, in addition to the Border Patrol Unit.

6. Takes note of paragraphs 19 and 20 of the report of the Joint Inspection Unit for 1998Official Records of the General Assembly, Fifty fourth Session, Supplement No. 34 (A 54 34). and reaffirms article 20 of the statute of the Unit and paragraph 182 of General Assembly resolution 54 249 of 23 December 1999, and in this regard requests the Secretary General to submit the report of the Administrative Committee on Coordination on the budget proposals made by the Unit as required by the statute

Bearing in mind paragraphs 8 and 9 of General Assembly resolution 59 267 and article 3, paragraph 2, of the statute of the Unit,Resolution 31 192, annex.

In its resolution 59 267 dated 23 December 2004, the General Assembly set guidelines for the functioning of the Unit aimed at increasing the effectiveness of its operations.

The Assembly also encouraged closer collaboration between the Special Rapporteur and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in particular the Anti Discrimination Unit.
