The study of dinosaurs led to the realization that there's a problem with asteroid impact, for example.

(a) Determine the orbital deflection of the asteroid as a result of the impact, to an accuracy of approximately 10 per cent

The second spacecraft, the impactor, called Hidalgo, would then impact the asteroid at a relative speed of at least 10 km s 1.

(f) Measure the state of rotation of the asteroid before and immediately after the impact to an accuracy of approximately 10 per cent.

You'll notice that the chance of an asteroid slash comet impact killing you is about one in 20,000, according to the work they've done.

One would hit a target asteroid at a very high relative speed, while the other would observe from an orbit around the asteroid before, during and after the impact in order to extract information on the asteroid's internal structure and its other physical properties.

Now, we've had several extinction events, and as we march forward 65 million years ago most of you know about it we had an asteroid impact.
