The Dag Hammarskjöld Library has continued to expand its services to United Nations depository libraries.

Each library in this network maintains a collection of United Nations materials that starts from the date of designation as a depository library.

In addition to offering library information services at Headquarters, the Dag Hammarskjöld Library maintains a network of 355 United Nations Depository Libraries in 142 Member States and territories.

Through workshops and other training seminars, the Library has continued to expand its training opportunities for United Nations depository librarians.

His delegation fully supported the work of the Steering Committee for the Modernization and Integrated Management of United Nations Libraries, whose aim was to create an effective network of library services throughout the Organization. It valued the outreach activities carried out by the Dag Hammarskjold Library through its 405 depository libraries in 146 countries.

It was impressed by the services provided by the Dag Hammarskjold Library, particularly its training programmes for staff of depository libraries, and by the Department's promotional activities, especially the organization of both travelling exhibitions and exhibitions at Headquarters.

Greater availability of United Nations documentation in electronic format through the implementation of a free Official Documents System in December 2004, has caused the Library to look at redefining the relationship between the United Nations and depository libraries.
