Activities aimed at improving the control of licit pharmaceuticals in selected countries will focus on the training of drug inspectors in inspection skills and the use of computers and software for improved monitoring of the drug trade, procurement and licensing systems and better reporting to the Board and UNDCP.

UNDCP gave priority to national and regional programmes focusing on preventive education for high risk groups (such as school going and street children), epidemiological monitoring and data analyses using common standards and drug abuse prevention in the workplace and to programmes for integrating former drug abusers into society.

25. Among the member States of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), information had been exchanged through the drug offence monitoring desk and sometimes directly between the member States concerned.

It has also set up a multi city monitoring network that has provided a common methodological basis for the collection, collation and evaluation of data on drug abuse at the city level.
