A formal response, however, including measures such as triple bottom line reporting and environmental management systems, appears to be prevalent only within a selection of larger scale firms.

In addition, governments and regulators should adopt policies ensuring sustainable financial sector practices, including annual reporting by companies and investors on environmental, social, and governance issues and due diligence and risk models regarding environmental hazards. Consideration of the possibility of stranded assets must be systematically expanded.

The knowledge base information system, packaged in a CD ROM, documents experiences and expertise in integrated environmental assessment and reporting at the national levels to promote the sharing of experience in Africa.

To enhance national input to AEO 2, training in integrated environmental assessment and reporting methodologies was carried out for all 53 countries in Africa, through the AEO collaborating centres, during the course of drafting the report.
