With regard to investment promotion and institutional capacity building, the delegation welcomed the improved funding arrangements for the Investment and Technology Promotion Offices, which had broadened the possibilities for developing countries to attract resources and facilitated the establishment of direct links between local entrepreneurs and potential investors.

The representative of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) expressed its appreciation for the format of simultaneous meetings of the Commission and the annual WAIPA conferences, and said that the interaction between policy makers and investment promotion practitioners created useful synergies for both events.

Experts underscored the significance of information technology for improving governance in investment promotion and the need to provide support to developing countries through programmes such as the UNCTAD Investment Gateway.

For example, investment promotion agencies in Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom have already established a presence in China.
