History has shown and Canada's legislatures have recognized that a posture of government restraint in the area of labour relations will expose most workers to a range of unfair labour practices.

ESCAP has facilitated sharing of experience and good practices on the elimination of gender discrimination in the labour market through gender sensitive legislation.

These may be philanthropic in nature, but may also involve undertakings on corporate conduct in the areas of environment, fair labour practices, and human rights.
