20. Requests the Secretary General to start, on a trial basis, a consultative process with the President of the General Assembly and the Chairmen of the Main Committees of the Assembly at the end of the main part of each session of the Assembly, with a view to consolidating reports on related subjects, if decided by the Main Committees

The Committee indicated that its main role and responsibility was to report to the General Assembly.

In order to foster better advance planning and preparation of the work of the Main Committees, the full Bureaux of the Main Committees shall similarly be elected three months in advance of the next session.

Emphasizing the need to strengthen the General Assembly which should be made to function effectively as the main deliberative and representative organ of the United Nations,

Decides that the Central African Republic, the Comoros, Georgia, Guinea Bissau, Somalia and Tajikistan should be permitted to vote in the General Assembly until the Assembly takes a final decision during the main part of the sixtieth session

Pursuant to resolution 58 316 and in order to facilitate the work of the Main Committees, the General Assembly decided to allocate item 116 to all the Main Committees for the sole purpose of considering and taking action on their respective tentative programmes of work.

There had been a significant improvement in that regard, the rate of compliance having increased from 40 per cent at the main part of the fifty seventh session of the General Assembly to 50 per cent at the main part of the fifty eighth session.

Members will recall that the General Assembly, by its resolution 59 312 of 14 July 2005, decided that nine out of the 10 Member States should be permitted to vote in the General Assembly until the Assembly takes a final decision during the main part of its sixtieth session.

The Department for General Assembly and Conference Management was making all necessary arrangements to ensure that all summary records of the main part of the fifty ninth session of the General Assembly would be issued by 31 March 2005.

In order to facilitate the work of the Main Committees, the General Committee may wish to recommend that the General Assembly also allocate item 118 to all the Main Committees for the sole purpose of considering and taking action on their respective tentative programme of work.

On 13 June 2005, at the 102nd plenary meeting, the President of the General Assembly announced the names of the persons who had been elected Chairmen of the Main Committees of the Assembly for the sixtieth session (decision 59 422).

May I take it that it is the wish of the General Assembly to authorize the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women to meet during the main part of the sixtieth session of the General Assembly?
