The Secretariat thanked the participants for their hard work, noting that the outcome of the meeting would be discussed at the Open ended Working Group meeting and any decisions would be taken finally at the Meeting of the Parties in December 2005 in Dakar, Senegal.

To ensure that all meeting participants are kept abreast of the activities of any groups that are established, the morning sessions of the committee on Tuesday and Wednesday will begin with reports from the various groups.

In view of the time pressure for the High level Plenary Meeting and also for the separate meeting on financing for development, I strongly appeal to participants to fully respect the time limit apportioned for each statement.

The meeting was attended by more than 500 participants, representing over 135 Governments and a number of intergovernmental organizations, non governmental organizations and United Nations agencies.

It was vital that the participants in the Meeting should agree on a specific document focused on the future, and so far the negotiations augured well.
