The Secretariat thanked the participants for their hard work, noting that the outcome of the meeting would be discussed at the Open ended Working Group meeting and any decisions would be taken finally at the Meeting of the Parties in December 2005 in Dakar, Senegal.

In view of the time pressure for the High level Plenary Meeting and also for the separate meeting on financing for development, I strongly appeal to participants to fully respect the time limit apportioned for each statement.

The meeting was attended by more than 500 participants, representing over 135 Governments and a number of intergovernmental organizations, non governmental organizations and United Nations agencies.

It was vital that the participants in the Meeting should agree on a specific document focused on the future, and so far the negotiations augured well.

Also at the 6th meeting, the participants adopted a resolution expressing appreciation to the Government and the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (see appendix VI).

A number of participants at the meeting of the Ad Hoc Expert Group and the Guadalajara meeting highlighted the potential benefits of agreeing on a global goal for forests that could provide a vision for the next 10 years.

That approach had been endorsed by the third inter committee meeting and sixteenth meeting of chairpersons, but participants considered that it required serious and careful consideration, as it was important to finalize a document that could be adopted by all committees.
