Which New Middle East?

I saw the power of Duke's song with urban youth an audience, you know, I as a middle aged professor, I don't have a hope of getting to in terms of convincing them of the importance of wildlands.

One hundred years after the start of WWI, colonial practices must finally come to an end. The Middle East needs the opportunity to govern itself, protected and supported by the UN Charter, not by any individual great power.

The existing power relations in the Middle East have indeed been permanently shaken and, indeed, revolutionized. The effect however, has not been a domino like democratization instead we are threatened with a domino effect of descent into chaos.

But Russia is no match for the US militarily and no match for China economically, and its soft power is virtually non existent. If Russia can provoke America whether by granting political asylum to the traitor Edward Snowden, for example, or by resisting Western diplomacy in the Middle East it is not because it has become a great power once again, but simply because America is no longer the great power that it once was.

This is particularly important with regard to the key group of lower middle income and middle income countries.
