The new vessel is 89 meters long, 18 meters wide, 7.2 meters deep and has a endurance of 10,000 nautical miles.

The coastal State shall delineate the outer limits of its continental shelf, where that shelf extends beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured, by straight lines not exceeding 60 nautical miles in length, connecting fixed points, defined by coordinates of latitude and longitude.

It follows from the above provisions of the Convention that a coastal State, which is entitled pursuant to the provisions of article 76 of the Convention to the continental shelf extending beyond 200 nautical miles, is required to submit to the Commission for its consideration information on the limits of its continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles.

Its continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles, which is currently under examination by the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, is estimated to be 953,525 square kilometres.

In accordance with the provisions of article 76, a Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf beyond 200 nautical miles shall be established in conformity with the following articles.

The need to strengthen capacity building for the production of nautical charts, especially electronic charts, with the participation of the International Hydrographic Organization and funding institutions, was raised by one delegation.

Last year, Australia lodged with the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf its submission on the outer limit of the shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the territorial sea baseline.

Mexico reaffirms the importance of promoting capacity in the preparation of reliable nautical charts that ensure navigational safety and the protection of the environment, in particular vulnerable marine ecosystems such as coral reefs.
