6. Decides to keep open during its fifty fifth session the item entitled Comprehensive review of the whole question of peacekeeping operations in all their aspects .

The Chairman, H.E. Mr. John Ashe (Antigua and Barbuda), declared open the first meeting of the Fifth Committee of the sixtieth session of the General Assembly.

At its sixtieth session, the Committee decided to review its working methods at its sixty first session and asked Mr. Valencia Rodríguez, convenor of an open ended working group on this issue, to prepare and submit a working paper for consideration.

Pursuant to paragraphs 8 and 9 of resolution 58 241, the Open ended Working Group held its second substantive session from 24 January to 4 February 2005 and its third and last substantive session from 6 to 17 June 2005.

The challenge facing the Open ended Working Group is to build a consensus on the various substantive issues by the end of its third session in June 2005.

After having consulted the Secretariat, I can say that the organizational session of the Open ended Working Group is tentatively scheduled to be held on 20 January 2006.

Malaysia believes that Member States should avoid any attempt to re open issues agreed upon at the forty ninth regular session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna.

The Open ended Working Group on Council reform concluded its work and recommended that the item continue to be considered at the current session of the General Assembly.
