These four drivers are fusing together and creating the big shift away from the 20th century, defined by hyper consumption, towards the 21st century, defined by collaborative consumption.

Instead of seeing its primary objective as consumption, design thinking is beginning to explore the potential of participation the shift from a passive relationship between consumer and producer to the active engagement of everyone in experiences that are meaningful, productive and profitable.

This convergence will contribute to more sustainable economic growth, with Asia s economies rebalancing toward domestic demand, especially household consumption, and thereby becoming less vulnerable to external shocks. Given the decline in export demand since the global economic crisis, this shift could not be timelier.
