(b) Staff development, career support and counselling

The Personal and Professional Development (P2D) training has helped staff take more control of their futures but UNICEF should not abdicate its responsibility to promote staff development.

1.187 All OTSD staff members will have participated in a professional staff development programme and 27 staff members will have obtained international certificates in procurement practices.

13. Requests the Secretary General to continue to consult with staff, including staff representatives, in the development of mobility policies

This will be achieved through the recruitment of new staff and stepped up training and professional development for existing staff.

3. Requests the Secretary General to report to it at its sixty third session on staff development policy and the priority of staff development, taking into account the impact of the retirement of many senior staff in the near future

Additional resources were also needed in the area of staff development.

Career development was pursued through Personal and Professional Development training, which has now involved some 4,500 staff.

In this regard, 110 staff development courses were conducted by the Tribunal.

Staff development activities have also been expanded and the Career Resource Centre, which opened in the third quarter of 2004, will offer formal and informal training to all staff.

Inter agency mobility will be facilitated at all levels through secondment, loans, learning and staff development programmes.

In the specific context of capacity building, indicators to map the progress of staff development are defined.

Governments can provide funding, real estate, staff and a special designation as tax abated enterprise development zones.

Furthermore, EMPRETEC Ghana undertook three installation missions to Guyana to train local staff in business development services.

As mentioned in the preceding paragraph, resources of 165,000 are related to training in connection with the development of online courses to meet career development needs of staff in field missions ( 96,000) and to conduct three personnel management training programmes for 60 staff members ( 69,000).

The UNCCDNevertheless, the secretariat needs to play a larger role in supporting staff development activities in the future.

(b) Provision of day to day administrative support for all issues related to human resources, including recruitment, staff welfare and conditions of service, duties and responsibilities, staff development and performance appraisal, and ensuring the efficient administration of entitlements and benefits under the Staff Regulations and Rules

UNICEF will also develop and deliver high quality, competency based learning programmes that support the MTSP and staff development needs.

1.37 In spite of the heavy investment in staff training and development, programmes are finding it increasingly difficult to find staff for senior and mid level managerial positions due to uncompetitive salaries and conditions of service.

Almost all interlocutors stressed the need for training and capacity development yet recognized that the retention of staff was a challenge.

(i) Implementation of staff development and learning programmes aimed at building core organizational and managerial competencies and substantive and technical skills for staff at all levels throughout the Office in the context of the central training programme of the Secretariat

Appeals to Member States, the Islamic Development Bank, Charitable Organizations and individuals to assist the University in putting up more facilities such as lecture rooms, science laboratories, staff houses, students hostels, to meet the growing numbers of students and staff.

And we recruited wonderful staff, highly motivated staff.

We have already opened liaison offices in Erbil and Basra, ahead of the possible deployment of an initial number of humanitarian and development staff.

Similarly, supervisors and managers will be encouraged to provide coaching and mentoring to staff members through in house and on the job professional development.

UNRWA concurs with the need to evaluate training in order to assess its contribution towards the professional development and growth of its staff members.

The results of the survey also highlighted the need for enhanced training and for staff and personal development and to address life work issues.

Reaffirming the role of the Staff College as an institution for system wide knowledge management, training and continuous learning for the staff of the United Nations system, in particular in the areas of economic and social development, peace and security and internal management,
