When changes in the domestic terms of trade for agriculture are compared with changes in the world terms of trade for food and agricultural raw materials, it is found that over the past two decades world terms of trade have fallen for both groups of agricultural products, while the domestic terms of trade for agriculture in SSA countries have improved (table 5).

With respect to the domestic terms of trade for export crops, the above findings on the terms of trade are supported by a World Bank study. See note 10.

Debt relief, additional aid, better trade opportunities and more favourable terms of trade are required to facilitate this process.
