The Department will continue to develop monitoring and evaluation tools to improve oversight and management of its technical cooperation activities and projects funded under the Development Account.

In preparing human resource management policies for the unified Department, a number of special issues require further analysis.

Also, in the Health department a new cancer management and detection initiative is planned and in the Education department increased human rights and globalization education training will be carried out.

In the area of integration, the Department had been cooperating with the Department of Peacekeeping Operations with a view to introducing a unified security management system for all civilian personnel.

Besides, the existing knowledge and experience of the Department of Management and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations could be beneficial while drawing up a comprehensive framework for results based budgeting.

It therefore requires regularization of its budgetary and technical support, and the migration of responsibilities from the Department of Peacekeeping Operations to the Department of Management, where such projects belong.

4. Welcomes the efforts of the Secretary General to conduct a comprehensive review of the management and operations of the Department of Public Information and to report thereon to the General Assembly at its fifty seventh session, and encourages the Secretary General to submit wide ranging innovative proposals for the Department that should take into account the issue raised in the current resolution

The practical aspects of concerted Department of Safety and Security Department of Peacekeeping Operations action with respect to security management arrangements for civilian personnel in the field are concentrated in the key areas of security policies and standards, information sharing and risk assessment, operations, education (including training), and resources management (including planning, financing and personnel and equipment management).
