The Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, adopted in March 2005, is a positive development in this respect.

An increase in assistance would go hand in hand with an international effort to enhance aid effectiveness.

In that context, Switzerland fully adheres to the Paris agenda on aid effectiveness and is convinced that harmonizing aid remains crucial to achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

In line with the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, we believe that aid must be predictable and time bound and that donors should align themselves with country procedures.

At the High level Forum on Aid Effectiveness recently held in Paris, the Union committed itself to improving the quality of its aid and to rationalizing its procedures.

For that, we need to improve the quantity, quality and effectiveness of aid, as well as policy coherence.

In that regard, it was urgent that the commitments made in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness should be fulfilled.
