Code of Conduct on the Safety of Radioactive Sources

The scope of the Code of Conduct for the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources was expanded from radiological safety to include radiological security.

In this spirit, Israel joined and played an active role in recent years in the deliberations of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Materials, signed the Convention on Nuclear Safety, supported the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety of Research Reactors and endorsed the IAEA Code of Conduct on Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources.

Uruguay acceded to the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources of 25 February 2004.

The EU is pleased to note the approval of the IAEA's Code of Conduct on the Safety of Research Reactors.

In that connection, the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources was a welcome step.

Taking note also of the importance of the code of conduct on the safety and security of radioactive sources as a valuable instrument for enhancing the safety and security of radioactive sources, while recognizing that the code is not a legally binding instrument, and of the International Atomic Energy Agency revised action plan for the safety and security of radioactive sources and its nuclear security plan for 2006 2009,

Taking note also of the importance of the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources as a valuable instrument for enhancing the safety and security of radioactive sources, while recognizing that the Code is not a legally binding instrument, and of the International Atomic Energy Agency Revised Action Plan for the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and its Nuclear Security Plan for 2006 2009,

It has also notified the Director General of IAEA of its acceptance of the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources.

Her Government was committed to observing the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and encouraged other States to do likewise.

With a view to implementing the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources, appropriate changes were made in the legislative framework which regulates the requirements for the physical protection and safety of such sources.

(j) Welcome the adoption of the revised Code of Safety for Fishermen and Fishing Vessels and encourage its effective application, and urge States to become parties to the 1993 Protocol to the Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels.

Implementation of the provisions of the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and of the supporting document entitled Guidance on the Import and Export of Radioactive Sources

In 2003 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) endorsed a Code of Conduct on the Safety of Radioactive Sources following a declaration of an Action Plan at the G8 Summit at Evian.

A requirement to report abuse, to raise concerns about possible breaches of the code, and to notify others when unexpected results may have social, environmental, safety, security or health implications

accreditation of classification societies that are members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and other safety bodies in order to assist national shipbuilders and port authorities in implementing the ISPS Code

In addition, OSCE participating States were examining the possibility of supporting the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and the guidance on the import and export of radioactive substances.

He informed the meeting that a revised code of safety for fishermen and fishing vessels had been adopted this year and also suggested that States should be asked to explain why they had not become parties to the Protocol to the Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels.

The EU welcomes the work currently being done by the IAEA and its Member States to improve the safety and security of radioactive sources, including the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources, which was finalized in July 2003 and approved by the IAEA General Conference in September 2003.

His Government also welcomed the adoption of relevant IAEA instruments and Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and the conference to strengthen the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material.

Canada has adhered to the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources, and has agreed to implement the relative guidance on the export and import of sources by 31 December 2005.

(g) Harmonization unification of the criminal code and the penal code

The EU welcomes the internationally harmonized guidelines on the import and export of radioactive sources, which are in line with the requirements set out in the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources.

For example, the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources (IAEA CODEOC 2004) and the IAEA document on the Prevention of the Inadvertent Movement and Illicit Trafficking of Radioactive Materials (IAEA TECDOC 1311).

In Finland, the amendments to Chapters V and XI of the Annex to the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) as well as the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) have been implemented through the following EU and national legislation which entered into force in their entirety on 1 July 2004

So the team actually developed a new code within the code within the code.

The above mentioned inter agency agreement takes into account the IAEA Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources, for which Uruguay expressed support on 25 February 2004 through its diplomatic mission in Austria.
