The outer space activities of Thailand are focused on two areas remote sensing and communications.

The United Nations Communications Group will be utilized to enhance the coordination of communications activities between the Department and the organizations of the United Nations family related to these issues.

Non Annex I Parties have pursued sustainable development and reported relevant activities and programmes in their initial national communications.

The majority of activities that were reported in the initial national communications were in the energy, agriculture, LUCF, and waste management sectors.

Priority issues and activities of substantive departments will be identified through the client planning process and will form the basis of communications plans.

ICTs have repeatedly been shown to support development activities by overcoming obstacles of geographic isolation, lack of access to information and challenges in communications.

Another major challenge for the Department is to monitor and analyse the impact of its communications campaigns and press coverage of United Nations activities.

27.25 The programme of activities under subprogramme 1, Strategic communication services, is carried out by the Strategic Communications Division, which includes information activities on the question of Palestine, the United Nations information centres, services and field offices.

The subprogramme will develop global communications strategies on priority issues affecting Africa and ensure that these strategies incorporate the full range of information activities undertaken globally by the Department.

These activities are of a policy nature (i.e., enforcing pension and financial rules and regulations communications quality security sustainable development policies) and of a support nature (i.e., administrative backstopping).

A new programme will bring together specialist support for non Annex I Parties' national communications, including through training, capacity building and Article 6 of the Convention, and collocate these activities with the secretariat activities relating to the financial mechanism for maximum synergy.

This document contains the report of the activities of the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) relating to the implementation of its activities during the period April to September 2005.

27.3 Proposals will continue to be made towards rationalizing the network of United Nations information centres, with the objective of enhancing the network's impact and activities, including through strategic communications support.

The Division of Information Systems and Telecommunications (DIST) was created in August 2004 to provide a coherent structure for the overall management and coordination of UNHCR's information and communications technology (ICT) activities.

These communications enabled managers to take immediate action to address areas of concern raised by OIOS, as well as clarify points and give comments on the decisions made and activities being undertaken.
