The 2004 and 2005 rounds of the UNIDO OECD joint annual compilation programme of global industrial statistics

The Statistics Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs has continued to mainstream gender perspectives in the compilation and dissemination of social and demographic statistics.

In 1999, the first compilation of Gender Statistics in Republic Tajikistan was published. The compilation provides an extensive presentation of the basic socio economic indices and standard of living indicators. They consist of statistics on women and men, that reflect their status in all spheres of public life.

In this context, further improvement in the compilation, analysis and dissemination of internationally comparable distributive trade statistics is recognized by the Statistics Division as one of its immediate priority activities.

With the establishment of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the PA provided the necessary institutional framework for the compilation and dissemination of statistics in vital economic and social sectors.

Minimum age for marriage and compilation of a marriage act at the vital statistics office upon contraction of the marriage are regulated.

Specifically, the module provides technical cooperation services in industrial governance and services related to the compilation, processing and dissemination of industrial statistics.

For this, two analytical papers based on the UNIDO databases and two methodological papers for the compilation of industrial statistics were produced.

To facilitate the discussions, the UNCTAD secretariat is preparing an issues note on FDI statistics data compilation and policy issues.

In 2006, the Statistics Division will conduct a comprehensive review of country practices in compilation and reporting of international merchandise trade statistics in order to assess their compliance with the current recommendations of the Statistical Commission.

The joint OECD Eurostat Task Force on Services Prices in Short Term Statistics is preparing a guide for the compilation of producer price indices for services.

To that end, the Committee should promote compilation, harmonization and dissemination practices for environmental economic accounting and related statistics in order to meet user needs.

The work programme on economic statistics advocates an integrated approach to the updating and maintenance of statistical standards on economic statistics across various economic activities and size classes of enterprises to ensure the harmonization of statistical concepts, classification, data collection methods, data processing, compilation and dissemination.

To that end, the Statistics Division has included questions on the statistical territory in its methodological questionnaires that serve to update countries' national compilation and dissemination practices.

The Commission will have before it a United Nations Statistics Division OECD report describing the joint United Nations Statistics Division OECD system for the collection and processing of international merchandise trade statistics, in response to the Commission's requests that international agencies streamline their data compilation systems, reduce the duplication of work and limit the reporting burden on countries.

As for trade statistics, the mission focused attention on (i) ascertaining the technical capabilities and work plan of the PCBS with regard to the compilation, processing, analysis, and dissemination of Palestinian foreign trade statistics (ii) identifying the nature and extent of needs of the PCBS for technical assistance in the area of international trade statistics and, (iii) developing relevant proposals for manpower training.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) completed a draft of the Compilation Guide for Monetary and Financial Statistics, a companion to the IMF Monetary and Financial Statistics Manual (2000),6 and will hold an expert group meeting for final review, including of issues of consistency with the SNA update, in December 2005.

However, particularly in the area of statistics, the compilation and quantitative and qualitative analysis of statistical information is undertaken with separate resources and seemingly separate objectives although such information is overlapping and not mutually exclusive.
