Sufficient and predictable funding through the core budget for core activities mandated by the Parties is essential for the timely delivery and high quality of these activities.

Legal and protection policy research and publication are core UNHCR activities.

Canada, New Zealand and Australia strongly supported the operational activities of the United Nations, as was demonstrated by their significant contributions to the core and non core resources of its funds, programmes and specialized agencies.

We therefore call for continued international cooperation with the Agency in order to carry out its core mandate and related activities.

The 2004 TCPR emphasized that funding of operational development activities for the United Nations system should focus on long term development and that core resources continue to be the bedrock of United Nations operational activities.

As an initial step in this direction, this note identifies seven areas at the interface of corporate activities and economic development as initial core topics.
