(iii) Employment policy

The employment policy is a failure.

ILO Employment Policy Convention, 1964 (No. 122).

Through the Indigenous Employment Policy, the Australian Government provides a focus on improving indigenous employment rates.

A. Right to work and employment policy article 6 of the Covenant

In 1990 Convention No. 122 on Employment Policy of 1964 was ratified.

53. By ratifying Convention No. 122, 1964, concerning Employment Policy, on 17 December 1965, Tunisia committed itself to declaring and pursuing an active policy designed to promote full, productive and freely chosen employment.

As a result, the Diversity and Employment Equity Policy was developed in May 2002.

The national employment policy, which occupies an important place in overall Government policy, is supported by a national strategy aimed at fighting poverty and exclusion.

Increasingly, emancipation has become part of policy at ministries other than the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.

The project takes a policy oriented approach in examining changing employment patterns by sector, occupation, age and gender.

The Commission will consider the following specific topics (i) the centrality of employment in policy formulation, including a broader recognition of work and employment (ii) improving access to productive resources and infrastructure and (iii) enhanced quality of work and employment.

The issue of the centrality of employment to poverty reduction has been lacking from international policy discussions, with the exception of the inclusion of youth employment in the Millennium Development Goals.
