The European Commission, as custodian of the Treaty establishing the European Community and the Community rules derived therefrom, was required to ensure compatibility between the draft convention and Community rules, in particular Directive 2000 31 EC on electronic commerce.

The European directive on water stipulates that all communities over 2,000 inhabitants have to have water purification facility and this directive is binding for all EU present and future member States, like Bosnia and Herzegovina.

And they're at the sharp end of what's called the WEEE, which is this European electrical and electronic waste directive.

The ultimate goal of the project is adoption of new water sector legislation, harmonized with that of the EU, particularly the Framework Directive on Water (Directive 2000 60 EC, European Parliament and Council, of 23 October 2000).

The Working Group had been aware that draft article 6 was based on a similar provision in the European Union Directive.

The representative to the European Community introduced the draft proposal prepared by the European Community on the issue.

Mr. Carvell (United Kingdom) said that the proposed clause provided a vehicle for reconciling potential differences between the draft convention and the European Union Directive.

As a result of those meetings, which also addressed the legal, social and economic position of the workers affected by new forms of work, the Directive was amended by Directive 2002 74 EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on 23 September 2002.

As regards the concept of established service provider, the directive sets out that case law of the European Court of Justice must be taken into account.

Ms. Struncova (European Commission) said that her delegation had reservations regarding the proposed wording because the concept of place of business was different from that of a place of establishment in the European Union Directive on electronic commerce and because the phrase conflicting mandatory rules was an alien concept in Community law that would create uncertainty as to which rules were applicable.

As it stood, the draft convention might result in incompatibilities with, in particular, articles 2, 9, 10 and 11 of the European Union Directive on electronic commerce.

The Council of the European Communities adopted a directive on 10 June 1991 on prevention of the use of the financial system for the purpose of money laundering, which was amended on 4 December 2001 by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.

In Europe since May 2004, all clinical trials in the 25 nations of the EU must conform to the European Directive (ED) issued in 2001 at the behest of pharmaceutical industry. Each country s regulatory body will have to issue their own regulations that are within the bound the Directive.
