Executive Direction and Management (EDM) comprises the functions and staff of the Executive Secretary, who has the responsibility for the overall management of the secretariat, for providing guidance on strategic issues and for high level representation.

It is composed of the executive heads of the member organizations and is assisted by two high level committees, the High Level Committee on Programmes and the High Level Committee on Management.

In the executive branch there is a ministerial level National Youth Commission.

Similarly, centrally controlled expenditures are now requested under Executive Office rather than Office of the Chief Executive Officer or Information Management Systems Service.

The programme supported the Executive management and policy programme in cooperation with the GEF.

At national level, relatively few executive positions are held by women (see diagram).

23.31 Based on the same report, which included a series of recommendations pertaining to executive management and strategic planning for and oversight of the human rights programme, the organizational structure under executive direction and management will be streamlined as described below

Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 58 269 of 23 December 2003, the Evaluation and Oversight Unit in UNEP comprises a Chief at the P 5 level, an Evaluation Officer at the P 4 level, a junior Professional officer and three administrative support staff in the General Service (Other level), falling under executive direction and management, funded from the regular budget.
