The personnel of the UNMOVIC field office in Cyprus consist of four staff members, two at the Professional and two at the General Service level.

The use of 100 series appointments for functions of a continuing nature would also help to harmonize, to an extent, the conditions of service between different groups of staff in field missions and to promote the harmonization of conditions of service of Secretariat field staff with field staff of the agencies, funds and programmes of the United Nations system, thereby strengthening the ability to recruit and retain high quality peacekeeping personnel.

(d) Staff in the Field Service and the General Service and related categories (such as Trades and Crafts, Security and Safety Service and Public Information Assistants) who are locally recruited

The Department's ultimate objective was to prioritize service delivery in the field and to ensure that host Governments, designated officials, programme managers and world class security personnel worked together to create a secure environment in which the Organization could implement its mandates.

For example, action taken in regard to a successful General Service candidate, selected for promotion to the P 2 level will require that the processing of an appointment personnel action include turning on the G P indicator in the examination field of IMIS.

Where the securities service organ adopts the professional opinions of other securities service organs or personnel in the opinions it gives, it shall still conduct due diligence, prudently examine the content of the professional opinions adopted, and assume responsibility for the conclusion formed using the professional opinions of the other securities service organs or personnel.

The Protocol strengthens the protection regime for personnel in the field who are subjected to various risks.

Furthermore, as indicated in the revised budget, 62 General Service posts (international) are to be replaced by Field Service posts (which are also international).

Members of the Field Service and staff members recruited specifically for mission service are not eligible for non resident's allowance or removal of household effects.

The Department's goal was to create a cadre of professional field personnel supported by responsive and effective leaders.
