These two facilities manufacture equipment for general use, some of which the Special Commission considers to be dual use equipment.

For ease of classification, these assets have been grouped into 12 categories of equipment presented in standard peacekeeping operation budgets prefabricated buildings, communications equipment, office equipment, electronic data processing equipment, generators, petrol tank plus metering equipment, water and septic tanks, accommodation equipment, refrigeration equipment, miscellaneous equipment, field defence equipment and water purification equipment.

It reviewed each entry of the equipment list and, in general, its recommendations in the equipment list were in broad agreement with those proposed by UNMOVIC experts.

UNOCI received equipment (vehicles, prefabricated buildings, communications equipment, medical equipment), personnel (contingent owned equipment inspectors, fire marshals, procurement officers, security officers) and air support.

The reduction in non post resources relates primarily to decreased provisions for general temporary assistance and office furniture and equipment, partially offset by an increase in general operating expenses for communications and maintenance of equipment in audit offices in Geneva and Nairobi.

Consistent with the previous report of the Secretary General dated 31 July 1995 (A 49 649 Add.3), the Operation apos s assets have been placed into six general categories covering air support, communications, and electronic data processing equipment, as well as generators, general stores and other equipment, and vehicles.

(b) Purchasing of computer equipment, vehicles, and medical equipment

The estimates, totalling 1,242,207, are based on actual identified requirements for the purchase of spare parts, repairs and maintenance for the following equipment office machines ( 35,000), electronic equipment ( 40,000), data communications ( 35,000), generators ( 500,000) miscellaneous equipment ( 438,642), observation equipment ( 110,000), medical equipment ( 25,000), welfare equipment ( 20,200) and data processing equipment ( 38,365).

The amount of 10,000 provides for the replacement of audio equipment, lighting equipment, batteries, other equipment and accessories.

This estimate covers repairs and maintenance of a variety of equipment, such as office machines, kitchen and heating equipment, generators, medical equipment, optical equipment, computer equipment, including contractual repair, maintenance and spare parts for stock.

In addition, the updated format for major medical equipment provided in the report of the Secretary General (A 59 292, annex II) to collect national cost data on medical equipment for review by the next Working Group should be approved by the General Assembly.
