(a) Estimates of gross national income

We repeat the goal is only 0.7 per cent of gross national income.

This shows you life expectancy against gross national income how rich countries are on average.

Hence, my delegation welcomes the efforts of those donor countries that have achieved the 0.7 per cent target of gross national income as official development assistance (ODA), with 0.2 per cent of gross national income for the least developed countries.

Low income countries in the normal process of development, for example, receive steady inflows of official foreign assistance of about 3 of their gross national income. By contrast, aid reached 95 of gross national income in Rwanda soon after the conflict ended, but fell to 20 within five years.

Five countries have reached the official development assistance (ODA) target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income (GNI).

Real per capita gross national income (GNI), in 1997 dollars, dropped by 33.4 per cent from 1,860 to 1,237.

(e) A low per capita income adjustment of 80 per cent, with a threshold per capita income limit of the average per capita gross national income of all Member States for the statistical base periods

By 2010, this will account for 0.56 per cent of the Union's collective gross national income an annual additional 20 billion euros.

From the outset, we have led the efforts to increase this assistance to 0.7 per cent of gross national income by 2015.

Many countries represented here have reiterated and reaffirmed their commitment to increasing their cooperation to 0.7 per cent of their gross national income.

We recall their commitment to increase their official development assistance to a level equivalent to 0.7 per cent of their gross national income.

Developed countries also have an obligation to provide as official development assistance to developing countries the agreed upon percentage of their gross national income.

We call on more donor countries to join us in delivering on the agreed United Nations target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income.

However, the principal element of the methodology should continue to be capacity to pay, the most accurate reflection of which was gross national income (GNI).

As to official development assistance, we welcome the decision taken by the European Union to increase its allotment to 0.7 per cent of gross national income.

Tonga, therefore, welcomes the renewed commitment made by donor partners to meeting the target of 0.7 per cent ODA of their gross national income by 2015.

All developed countries should make timetables for reaching the target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income for international development assistance by the year 2015.

However, global ODA is still well below the agreed target of 0.7 per cent of the gross national income of developed countries, leaving much room for improvement.

The need to accelerate the pace of reaching the ODA target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income was stated emphatically and echoed by many speakers.

The Government of Luxembourg has confirmed its intention to increase its ODA contribution in the years to come to one per cent of its gross national income.

Can We Increase Gross National Happiness?

But if you look at that same index of health and social problems in relation to GNP per capita, gross national income, there's nothing there, no correlation anymore.

My delegation supports the timetable proposed by the Secretary General to achieve the target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income for official development assistance by 2015.

Here let me place special emphasis on the allocation of 0.15 to 0.2 per cent of gross national income to official development assistance for the least developed countries.

(a) Estimates of the gross national product

To that end, we support the establishment of a timetable for achieving the goal of devoting 0.7 per cent of gross national income to official development assistance by 2015.

More than 30 years ago, the richest countries committed themselves to providing 0.7 per cent of their gross national income as official development assistance, particularly for the poorest countries.

In that regard, the Kyrgyz Republic welcomes the decision of the European Union to allocate 0.7 per cent of its gross national income to official development assistance by 2009.

On the contrary, it included the former Yugoslavia in the scales of assessments that it adopted for the periods 1995 1997 and 1998 2000, based on national income gross national product data for Serbia and Montenegro.

The growth of gross national income (GNI) in developing countries outpaced the growth in debt in 2004, improving the total debt to income ratio for all developing countries to an estimated 35.2 per cent, down from 38.6 per cent in 2003.

In that context, we welcome the establishment of timetables by developed countries, notably those of the European Union, to reach the target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income for ODA by no later than 2015 and urge those donors which have not done so to follow suit by 2006 and to attain 0.15 to 0.2 per cent of gross national income for ODA to least developed countries.

Population assistance in relation to gross national product

In the US alone, individuals gave 240 billion to charity in 2013. Foundations and corporations topped this up to a total of 335 billion, or about 2 of gross national income.

Its official development assistance would attain 0.46 per cent of gross national income in 2006 and was expected to reach 0.50 per cent in 2007 and 0.70 per cent by 2012.

For us developed countries that means significantly stepping up our official development assistance (ODA) and establishing timetables to reach the agreed ODA target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income.

Why don't we care more about gross national happiness?

It's basically two ratios of per capita GDP, per capita gross domestic product, so average income.

Statistics on per capita or per income gross domestic product hide much more than they reveal.

We know that more will have to be done to achieve the commitments of Monterrey and to reach the target of 0.7 per cent of gross national income in official development assistance (ODA).

The per capita gross national product (GNP) is around 850.

We also hope that the progressive increases proposed will mean that the least developed countries will receive 0.2 per cent of those countries' gross national income, as agreed in the Brussels Programme of Action.
