Hands on training workshop on vulnerability and adaptation assessments for the Africa region

The SBI took note of the recommendations contained in document FCCC SBI 2005 7 on further improvement of training materials and on future hands on training workshops.

The training consists of two parts, that is, structured briefings and hands on training with legal officers from the Office of Legal Affairs.

The CGE also ensures that representatives of other expert groups take part in the hands on training workshops it has organized.

Update on the hands on training workshops and the development of training materials The CGE conducted hands on training workshops on GHG inventories for the Latin America and the Caribbean region (Panama City, Panama, 25 29 October 2004) and the Asia region (Shanghai, China, 8 12 February 2005), and on V and A assessments for the Africa region (Maputo, Mozambique, 18 22 April 2005), involving 120 national experts from 78 developing countries.

In this regard the CGE, through the secretariat, invited LEG members to provide feedback on the training material developed for the CGE hands on training workshop on vulnerability and adaptation assessments for the Africa region, held in April 2005 in Maputo, Mozambique.

The secretariat notes that additional financial resources are still needed to complete the remaining hands on training workshops outlined in the CGE work programme.

It also welcomed the offer made by the Government of the Republic of Korea to host the CGE global hands on training workshop on mitigation, scheduled for September 2005.

The SBI took note that the CGE global hands on training workshop on mitigation is tentatively scheduled to be held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 26 to 30 September 2005.

The SBI welcomed the offer by the Government of Mozambique to host the first CGE hands on training workshop on vulnerability and adaptation assessments for the Africa region in April 2005.

The Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) may wish to provide additional guidance on the overall work of the CGE for 2006 2007 and on the conduct of the remaining regional hands on training workshops.

The representative of the NCSP was also invited to present an overview of the NCSP's work programme at the global hands on training workshop on mitigation assessments in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The SBI further noted that the next CGE hands on training workshop on GHG inventories, for the Asia region, is scheduled to be held in Shanghai, China, from 8 to 12 February 2005.

The SBI welcomed the continuing efforts of the CGE to collaborate with other expert groups under the Convention by soliciting inputs to the development of hands on training materials.

The group continued to provide technical advice to Parties on improving their national communications through the effective organization of four hands on training workshops and examination of national communications of non Annex I Parties.

The SBI urged Parties included in Annex II to the Convention, and other Annex I Parties in a position to do so, to provide financial resources for the work of the CGE in the development of training materials and the organization of the hands on training workshops.
