Many of these industrial districts are located in labour surplus regions, employing less well trained labour.

In Mauritius, women represented a very high percentage of the total labour force.

The results of the labour force and manpower surveys, undertaken by UNDP and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in support of the Ministry of Labour, were released in December.

The representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) made statements.

Workers without social protection now comprise the vast majority of the urban labour force.

29. The 1993 census figures indicate that more women have joined the labour force.
