More attention should be given to unintentional injuries intergenerational approaches to nutrition, including maternal nutrition breastfeeding and infant and young child feeding and social, psychological and emotional issues.

These achievements have been underscored by significant improvements in infant and young child nutrition and sustained high rates of immunization.

UNICEF in 2004 supported several countries in policy development for nutrition, including Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda and Timor Leste, and on infant and young child feeding.

The humanitarian component of this strategy could be implemented regardless of political and security considerations. For example, it would involve implementing the UN s 1,000 day project for maternal health and infant nutrition, aimed at ending the North s chronically high rate of infant malnutrition.

For the health and nutrition component of the national programme, infant, under 5 and maternal mortality, along with the incidence of underweight and micronutrient deficiency, have been reduced since 2000.
