Taking note also of the High level Dialogue on Interreligious and Intercultural Understanding and Cooperation for Peace, with the overall theme of interreligious and intercultural cooperation for the promotion of tolerance, understanding and universal respect on matters of freedom of religion or belief and cultural diversity, held on 4 and 5 October 2007,

Recalling also its resolution 61 221 of 20 December 2006, on the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace,

5. Encourages Member States to consider, as and where appropriate, initiatives that identify areas for practical action in all sectors and levels of society for the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, tolerance, understanding and cooperation, through, inter alia, the ideas suggested during the High level Dialogue on Interreligious and Intercultural Understanding and Cooperation for Peace

INTERCULTURAL LEARNlNG

Mindful that those initiatives identify areas for practical action in all sectors and levels of society for the promotion of interreligious, intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue, understanding and cooperation,

The Committee recommends that the State party strengthen measures to promote understanding, tolerance and friendship between ethnic groups, including comprehensive public education campaigns and intercultural education in school curricula.

Strengthening of intercultural bilingual education.

The Committee recommends that the State party adopt measures to promote intercultural understanding and education between ethnic groups, and provide more detailed information on this issue in its next periodic report.

There was no day of intercultural cooperation.

Aware that tourism can make significant contributions to the promotion of lasting peace and security through the creation of an enabling atmosphere as well as the strengthening of international cooperation, and as a vehicle for intercultural understanding,

Realizing that ominous trend, Malaysia supports initiatives such as the culture of peace, dialogue among civilizations, and interfaith dialogues, which are important international efforts to promote mutual understanding and cooperation through intercultural, inter civilizational and interreligious programmes.

These are participatory, capacity building, multidisciplinary and intercultural in character.

Many of those activities and initiatives designed to reduce the risks of tension and radicalisation or to promote better understanding and greater cohesion have been conveniently brought together under the broad umbrella of intercultural and inter religious dialogue .

Supports practical initiatives at the regional and national levels by all parties concerned, including the media representatives themselves, to encourage the media to enhance its capacity in promoting interfaith and intercultural understanding and cooperation for peace, development and human dignity

The Committee regrets the lack of information on measures taken by the State party to enhance better understanding, respect and tolerance among different ethnic groups living in Azerbaijan, in particular, on programmes adopted, if any, to ensure intercultural education (art. 7).

The topic of World Food Day 2005 was Agriculture and intercultural dialogue .

In order to deal with the problem, the Government had developed a comprehensive health policy, from an intercultural perspective, based on a project entitled Designing an intercultural health policy for the indigenous peoples of Venezuela .

Another problem is the lack of teaching materials suitable for intercultural education and pedagogy.

8. Decides to declare 2010 the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, and recommends that, during the course of the year, appropriate events be organized on interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace, inter alia, a high level dialogue and or informal interactive hearings with civil society

It is also providing support for bilingual and intercultural programmes in countries including Bolivia, Brazil, Guyana and Namibia.

This will help to safeguard, among other things, the intercultural and emancipatory dimensions of the education they provide.

UNICEF reports that it is involved in a number of intercultural education projects in various parts of the world.

The discussions on the theme of the morning session, The role of religions in promoting intercultural understanding towards sustainable peace and on the theme of the afternoon session, Exploring strategies to enhance interfaith cooperation for sustainable peace were led by panellists and discussants from Governments, the United Nations system and civil society.

Affirming Member States' determination to continue to do all they can to resolve conflict, end foreign occupation, confront oppression, eradicate poverty, promote sustained economic growth, sustainable development, global prosperity, good governance, human rights for all and rule of law, improve intercultural understanding and ensure respect for all religions, religious values, beliefs or cultures,

Any effort to strengthen bilingual intercultural education must start with the training of the teachers who are to provide it.

I believe that respect for cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue is one of the surest guarantees of development and peace.

14. Also appreciates the participation of Member States in the high level dialogue on interreligious and intercultural cooperation for the promotion of tolerance, understanding and universal respect on matters of freedom of religion or belief and cultural diversity, held on 4 and 5 October 2007, in accordance with resolution 61 221 of 20 December 2006

America has reached a pivotal moment in its national and global history, with new hopes for intercultural exchange, dialogue, and mutual understanding. President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton say that theirs will be an age of smart power that will effectively use all tools of diplomacy at their disposal, including cultural diplomacy.

While there are many successful examples of intercultural bilingual education, not all countries with indigenous populations have adopted this educational model.

Finally, the authors support the continued promotion of the intercultural dialogue, but affirm that the CKREE does not fulfil this aim.

Recognizing the importance of interreligious and intrareligious dialogue and the role of religious and other non governmental organizations in promoting tolerance in matters relating to religion or belief, and in this regard welcoming the High level Dialogue on Interreligious and Intercultural Understanding and Cooperation for Peace, held by the General Assembly on 4 and 5 October 2007,

Support will be given to initiatives aiming at integrating the values and practices of learning to live together into all levels of education by assisting Member States in the catchments areas in reorienting their basic educational policies so that contents and processes include such values as human rights, gender equality, peace, tolerance, non violence and intercultural understanding.
