At the same meeting, statements were made by the representatives of Benin (on behalf of the African States Group), Belgium (on behalf of the Western European and Other States Group), Armenia (on behalf of the Eastern European States Group), the Islamic Republic of Iran (on behalf of the Asian States Group) and Honduras (on behalf of the Latin American and Caribbean States Group).

Mr. Khani Jooyabad (Islamic Republic of Iran) noted that the delegation of Canada had made a similar proposal at the last session of the Working Group.

The Conference welcomed the establishment of the Islamic Group in UNESCO and urged this group to convene regular meetings at the level of ambassadors and experts with the aim of coordinating the positions of the Member States on issues of common interest to the Islamic world, particularly on the International Convention on Cultural Diversity, which is expected to be completed in 2005.

Welcomes the setting up of the Islamic Group in UNESCO, and urges the aforesaid Group to hold regular meetings at Ambassadorial and Expert levels in order to coordinate the positions of the Member States on issues of common concern to the Islamic world, in particular, on the international Convention on Cultural Diversity which is expected to be finalized in 2005.
