Fire was the most common natural cause of forest destruction in Canada.

C. Greater recognition of sustainable forest management and forest products trade

Local and regional supply scarcities will continue to put pressure on some areas of natural forest but, on a broad scale, the world's forests have the capacity to meet this increase in demand.

Forest fiscal reform provides opportunities to increase revenues generated from forest resources.

The secretariat has addressed other regional commissions in respect of forest related matters within the context of the Millennium Development Goals and other activities, including natural resource use, governance, renewable energy and sustainable development.

However, they are likely to differ in forest rich and forest poor countries.
