The investment income of the Fund during the period amounted to 1,655,924,487, comprising 1,227,887,984 in interest and dividends and 428,036,503 in net profit on sales of investments.

The 1999 resource requirement for the Registry amounts to 70,888,300 gross ( 65,876,800 net of staff assessment and other income), reflecting an increase of 26,539,100 gross ( 24,828,200 net of staff assessment and other income) over the 1998 appropriation of 44,349,200 gross ( 41,048,600 net of staff assessment and other income).

23. The revised 1998 resource requirements for the Registry amount to 45,441,100 gross ( 42,104,200 net of staff assessment and rental income), reflecting an increase of 1,091,900 gross ( 1,055,600 net of staff assessment and other income) over the 1997 appropriation of 44,349,200 gross ( 41,048,600 net of staff assessment and other income).

Without allocating operating expenses between the two revenue generating activities, the projected 2006 net PSD income (regular resources) of 334.4 million comprises net operating income from private sector fund raising of 302.7 million and from card and gift sales of 53.1 million, offset by the cost of investment funds of 21.4 million to support fund raising and sales initiatives.

In fund raising, the net operating income (before investment funds) for regular resources for 2006 is projected at 295.5 million, compared to the 2005 latest estimate of 259.8 million (see table 1A).

This income is expected to remain around 6 per cent of net proceeds.

But, despite China s position as one of the world s largest creditors, its net investment income balance is deeply negative. In fact, China has run investment account deficits for six of the last nine years, with preliminary statistics suggesting a deficit of 57.4 billion in 2012.

Currently, the investment section has six investment officers who cover global equity markets and fixed income investments.

As a result, net domestic resources available for investment, as represented by domestic savings less net transfers abroad (or gross national savings), were reduced by that much, thereby adversely affecting the level of domestic investment and increasing the gap between investment and savings.

23. Net miscellaneous income expenditure decreased from income of 5.2 million in 1994 1995 to an excess of expenditure over income of 1.9 million in 1996 1997.

The net consolidated income, including the tsunami funds, is expected to total 915.9 million.

The financial report and accounts reflect UNICEF income, expenditure, assets and liabilities, including the net operating income, assets and liabilities of PSD.

The Fund relies on three sources of income (a) employers' contributions (b) employees' contributions and (c) investment income.
