The second key process is next February's meeting of the United Nations Ad Hoc Open ended Working Group on marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.

With its third three year cycle beginning next year, the Informal Consultative Process should maintain its relevance and usefulness, as well as its inclusiveness and open ended nature.

We support the Open ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea set up by resolution 54 33 and extended by resolution 57 141.

Fiji welcomes and supports the decision to continue the United Nations Open ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea for the next three years.

The list contained in draft article 2 was thus open ended.

Over the last six years, the Open ended Informal Consultative Process has made valuable contributions to the General Assembly's annual deliberations on ocean affairs and the law of the sea.

Under the agenda item dealing with process agents, the Open ended Working Group also heard the findings or recommendations from the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel regarding several new submissions.

At its fifty seventh session, the General Assembly decided to continue for three years the United Nations Open ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea.

The Panel's review is under way and the Open ended Working Group may wish to make recommendations to the Meeting of the Parties as appropriate on these process agent uses.

The Open ended Working Group may wish to consider the Panel's findings on these process agent related issues and consider making recommendations, as appropriate, to the Seventeenth Meeting of the Parties.

Finally, at its twenty fifth meeting, the Open ended Working Group heard a presentation on the process agent uses that had been listed in decision XV 7 as process agent uses for 2005 and 2006 only, pending a reconsideration this year.

At the twenty fifth meeting of the Open ended Working Group, the Parties discussed the Panel's reaffirmation that each of those nominations met the criteria for designation as a process agent use.

Therefore and because we attach the utmost importance to the continuity of the ocean affairs consultation process, we note with special interest the forthcoming meeting of the United Nations Open ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea.

We support the view that the open ended working group which will be set up should embark on an elaborate discussion on the modalities, mandate, review process and composition of such a Council.

In that respect, my delegation welcomes the adoption of the theme of an ecosystem approach to oceans management as the central element of the forthcoming meeting of the Open ended Informal Consultative Process.

For that reason, we welcome the fact that the next meeting of the United Nations Open ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea will focus on that theme.
