During the seventeenth session, the Board of Trustees heard, in closed meetings, eight representatives of organizations carrying out nine different projects.

The Commission had decided to carry out a full review during its seventh session in 1999, thereby acting as a preparatory mechanism for the special session of the General Assembly.

It is my earnest hope that the outcome of this session will not turn out to be another talk show.

To enable their participation in the open ended session of the Commission and in the special session itself, appropriate procedures and arrangements for their accreditation will need to be worked out.

In February, the Commission for Social Development carried out its 10 year review of the social development agenda set out in Copenhagen and at the twenty fourth special session of the General Assembly.
