Finally, the European human rights system forms one part of the Council of Europe.

How Europe Can Rescue Europe

That enemy, however, was also European first Germany, then Russia. In effect, the shared transatlantic geopolitical interest was between the US and one part of Europe against another.

Not a great deal of time has passed since Europe, especially its eastern part, underwent major political changes connected, at least in some cases, with difficult security challenges.

Though population transfers, even as part of a peace settlement, would not be easily accepted under modern human rights law, the wreckage of post war Europe brought a different conclusion.

Third, emerging countries short term opportunism is based on a double distrust towards Europe, of course, but also, paradoxically, towards themselves. That is, they lack confidence in their ability to do their part to save the sick man of the global economy that Europe has become.

The longer average flight distances could be explained in part by increased movement between Asia and Europe, as well as to and through Africa.

Eastern Europe has its problems, which are likely to impact Western Europe s highly leveraged banks. In a globalized world, problems in one part of the system quickly reverberate elsewhere.
