The Chairman welcomed the new Permanent Observer for Palestine, Mr. Mansour, to the Committee.

Endorses the decision of the Committee to grant permanent observer status to the European Space Policy Institute

The Chairman I now invite the Permanent Observer of the Inter Parliamentary Union to take the floor.

Ms. Barghouti (Permanent Observer for Palestine) said that the Palestinian people had been struggling for a long time to exercise its inalienable rights, including the right to permanent sovereignty over its natural resources.

The President I thank the Chargé d'affaires of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine for the kind words she addressed to me.

Requests the OIC Permanent Observer Mission in Geneva, pending the establishment of an OIC Office in Brussels, to continue to maintain a close liaison with the European Union.

The Permanent Observer of Palestine read out a message from Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and President of the Palestinian Authority.

If the Security Council were to so extend the deadline, I would notify States Members of the United Nations and non member States maintaining permanent observer missions at United Nations Headquarters accordingly.

Mr. Duclos (France) (spoke in French) My delegation would like to express its condolences to the Permanent Observer of the Holy See on the passing of His Holiness Pope John Paul II.

In addition to the sector headquarters, which would accommodate both military and civilian personnel, there would be two to four permanent team sites in each sector where combined observer groups would be deployed.
