Additional requirements of 9,300 relate to the purchase of equipment and related supplies to ensure the security of mission property.

Provision is made for the purchase of field defence and related supplies at an average cost of 5,900 per month.

The estimated cost of 829,900 for the start up kits covers the purchase of vehicles, observation equipment and miscellaneous supplies.

The unutilized balance of 362,600 resulted from lower actual requirements for the purchase of additional supplies owing to the utilization of (a) existing inventory which reduced requirements for the purchase of additional supplies and (b) supplies donated by the Government of South Africa, with an estimated value of 561,500, in connection with the establishment of eight weapons storage areas for the demobilization programme.

For this reason, the Mission continued its support through the purchase of clothing and hygienic supplies for the demobilized soldiers.

The Security Council authorized Iraq to export oil and utilize two thirds of the proceeds for the purchase of humanitarian supplies.

The recorded expenditure pertains to the purchase of materials and supplies, including gravel, premixed concrete and other supplies, for the repair and maintenance of bridges along the main supply routes of the Mission.

Additional provision is made in the amount of 34,400 for the purchase of medical supplies, taking into account approved resources of 10,000.

The unutilized balance of 218,000 resulted from the utilization of existing inventory, thereby reducing requirements to purchase additional supplies during the reporting period.

The estimate provides for the purchase of household items, paper products and other miscellaneous supplies at an average cost of 5,000 per month.

Museums should check the provenance of artifacts carefully and not purchase items from dealers whose supplies come from illegal excavations and looting.

The expenditure of 34,200 was incurred for the purchase of one electric forklift for the movement of various equipment and supplies inside the warehouses.

Provision is also made for purchase of supplies and equipment such as data processing supplies, health and safety materials, batteries, lamps, stoves, detergent, bottled water, construction materials and plastic sheeting and materials for shelter.

The Committee notes that this provision includes 759,000 for the purchase of 35 4x4 vehicles ( 630,000), 1 light forklift ( 30,000), plus freight at 15 per cent for the items ( 99,000), 1,300 for the purchase of observation equipment and 63,600 for miscellaneous supplies.

During the reporting period expenditures totalled 56,000 for the purchase of radio, satellite, telephone, telex and fax spare parts and supplies, resulting in the unutilized balance of 66,400.

23. The amount of 829,900 provided to complete the start up kits is intended to cover the purchase of vehicles ( 759,000), observation equipment ( 1,300) and miscellaneous supplies ( 69,600).

IS3.51 The provision of 138,600, reflecting a decrease of 24,200, would cover the purchase of office supplies and related expenses ( 8,800) and the replacement cost of the guides' uniforms ( 129,800).

The unencumbered balance resulted from civilian vacancies, the acquisition of vehicles under a global purchase order, lack of helicopter support and the availability of supplies from United Nations surplus stock.

42. Provision of 19,300 is made for the purchase of equipment ( 4,700), materials and supplies ( 1,300) and contractual services ( 13,300) for the public information programme of the Mission s public information office.

Provision is made for the purchase of miscellaneous supplies such as padlocks, archive boxes and package materials owing to the increase in the number of team sites and office accommodations ( 3,000).

The budget provides 50,000 for supplies for the acquisition of flat packing kits to be included in shipping containers containing office and accommodation equipment to permit reinstallation in usable condition in other missions, as well as for the purchase of generator and fuel pump electrical supplies.

The provision of 305,800 includes 158,400 for spare parts and supplies, 31,900 for the purchase of telephone systems for installation in police stations and rental of pagers, and 115,500 for commercial communications.
