OSCE counter terrorism developments since the First UN CTC Special Meeting with international, regional and sub regional organizations

The following regional preparatory meetings were held to prepare for the Eleventh Congress African Regional Preparatory Meeting, held in Addis Ababa from 1 to 3 March 2004 Asian and Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting, held in Bangkok from 29 to 31 March 2004 Latin American and the Caribbean Regional Preparatory Meeting, held in San José from 19 to 21 April 2004 and the Western Asian Regional Preparatory Meeting, held in Beirut from 28 to 30 April 2004.

A private meeting was also held with representatives of the five regional groups.

Ms. LAVERY suggested that the meeting be suspended to facilitate discussions among regional groups.

The meeting agreed on priority areas for developing regional scientific cooperation, on establishing regional thematic networks, and on organizing regional technical workshops on promoting the exchange of technologies and know how, by using existing regional training and reference centres.

In March 2004, a sub regional meeting for South America was held in preparation for the Ninth Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Following up on the Asian regional meeting held in 2003 and the Abu Dhabi Initiative for implementation of the priority activities of the Asian RAP in the period 2003 2008, which was adopted at the meeting, a regional consultation meeting took place in March 2005 to consider potential project concepts for submission to the GEF.

The next European regional meeting will be hosted by the Greek National Human Rights Commission in fall 2006.

The United Nations Millennium Project has noted the importance of regional cooperation in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

The International Conference was preceded in October 2004 by a regional women's meeting which adopted the Kigali Declaration.

Regional groups are thus encouraged, during the course of the meeting, to elect officers to a new Bureau.

The question of fund raising would be given active consideration by the executive secretaries of the regional commissions at their forthcoming meeting.

The regional management team meeting held in Rome and Geneva earlier this year included meetings with ILO, UNAIDS, UNHCR, WFP and WHO.

42. We request the Government of Indonesia, as host of the present Regional Ministerial Meeting, to transmit the outcome of the Meeting to the High Level Plenary Meeting of the 60th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2005.

In that context, they have sought out information on regional meetings of environment ministers and made efforts to attend those meeting wherever possible.

At the 4th meeting, the Chair informed the SBI that an agreement had been reached among the regional groups, and announced the nominees.

It should also be noted that in the high level meeting of the United Nations and regional organizations on 25 and 26 July, it was agreed that a report would be prepared for the next high level meeting on the implementation of the 10 year process of sustained capacity building support for African regional and subregional organizations.

They also discussed difficulties encountered in meeting the commitments and policy objectives of the regional strategy, and suggested policy measures to address these difficulties.
