Most FDI from that region originated from East, South and South East Asia.

Protracted displacement also characterized a great number of IDP situations, particularly those in south eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and the Middle East.

Europe Moves East

Activities will be streamlined and focused on south east Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), in particular Central Asia and the Caucasus.

North, South, East, West,

Turkey constitutes a new synthesis because of its ability to link such diverse qualities and backgrounds. Turkey is thus capable of overcoming the dichotomies of East West, Europe Middle East, and North South.

Owing to its geographic location, Turkey had been affected by the trafficking of heroin from south western Asia to Europe and of chemical precursors and synthetic drugs from Europe to the Middle East.

Well developed drug information systems were available in Europe and North America, whereas the situation in sub Saharan Africa, North Africa and the Middle East could be further improved and significant progress was being made in other regions, including Latin America and the Caribbean, Central, South and South West Asia and East and South East Asia, with the establishment of mechanisms for monitoring drug abuse trends.

Turkey, Europe and Middle East Security

Reiterating the importance of the South East European Cooperation Process and its contribution to security, stability and good neighbourly relations in South Eastern Europe, and recalling in particular the Joint Statement issued by the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the South East European Cooperation Process in Belgrade on 19 June 2002,A 57 98 S 2002 705, annex.

In 2004, the volume of foreign direct investment in South East Europe reached the level of 5 per cent of the regional countries' collective gross domestic product.

The subregion South, East and South East Asia alone accounts for almost three quarters of all outward FDI from developing countries.

There are five FAO regional offices (Africa Accra, Ghana Asia and the Pacific Bangkok, Thailand Europe Rome, Italy Latin America and the Caribbean Santiago, Chile Near East Cairo, Egypt) and four Subregional Offices (North Africa Tunis, Tunisia South and East Africa Harare, Zimbabwe Caribbean Bridgetown, Barbadoes Eastern Europe Budapest, Hungary).

Countries of South East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa are currently on track to meet the poverty goal.

These economies account for 99 per cent of the total inward FDI stock of South, East and South East Asia in 2002.

South East Europe and the CIS countries have a high share of people living in poverty, with the incidence remaining high in seven low income countries in that region.

The Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) is an international NGO representing some 9 million rural women in over 70 countries in Africa, Asia the Far East, Central South America and the Caribbean, Europe, North America, South Pacific.

Therefore, allow me to share several examples of best practices and lessons learned, taken from the experience of Bulgaria and the region of South East Europe over the past 15 years.
