Stakeholder participation in sustainable forest management is an increasingly important feature at the country level.

In order that stakeholder involvement may be enhanced, participation by major groups continues to be strengthened.

At all levels, participation of a broad range of stakeholder groups will be essential in this undertaking.

Mr. Sanon said the case study launched a workshop to foster effective stakeholder participation, information sharing and awareness raising.

Countries report a positive trend towards increasing stakeholder participation, stimulated both by the emphasis in the IPF IFF proposals and by more general national policies that promote such participation.

CPF members state that the multi stakeholder dialogue at sessions of the Forum and the participation of civil society in intersessional activities have been beneficial.

Civil society perspectives on stakeholder participation often contrast with even contradict governmental viewpoints on how to balance this with the representative role of elected members.
