During the current period, new loans amounting to 244 million were made and total loans outstanding as at 30 June 2005 amounted to 41.6 million.

A total of 11,494 loans valued at 9.38 million were disbursed in the Gaza Strip and, since 1991, a total of 71,082 business and consumer loans worth 73.16 million have been disbursed in the Gaza Strip.

About 44 per cent of the total 1,361 loans issued during the reporting period were managed directly by department staff and included 392 housing improvement loans ( 531,429), 164 small scale enterprise loans ( 599,411) and 43 subsidized soft loans to special hardship families ( 185,936).

Soft loans were provided to four graduates to help establish microenterprises, bringing the field total to 14 soft loans, with a 100 per cent repayment rate.

Loans made by the State Housing Agency last year were approximately equal to the total loans made by the Agency in its first 14 years of operation.

As of June 2001 a total of 1,553 student loans had been granted by the government.

The largest percentage of the total volume of loans was concentrated in industry, trade, and agriculture.

During the reporting period, the programme provided a total of 2,774 loans valued at 3.1 million.

This total of 87,321 compares with an amount of 14,516 declared as earned on the 1996 advances.

By the end of February 1998, 15 Governments had declared a total of 52,508 in interest earned in 1997 on UNFPA advances.

Additionally, there were charges of 140,300 for the settlement of advances made in prior periods for mission subsistence allowance, resulting in total expenditures of 408,100.
