Recommendation 7 was better use of the Board of Trustees .

However, the recommendation by OIOS to consider improvements to the Institute's Board of Trustees had been implemented, and the former Board of Trustees had been reconstituted and integrated in the current Executive Board.

The Board of Trustees has developed the following practices and guidelines

X. Fund raising for the eleventh session of the Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees examined 63 applications and recommended 25 project grants.

In addition, the Board of Trustees has developed other practices and guidelines

The Board of Trustees then makes recommendations to the Secretary General in accordance with the guidelines of the Fund and Board.

The Board of Trustees held its tenth session from 7 to 11 March 2005.

UNITAR is governed by a Board of Trustees and is headed by an Executive Director.

Evaluation by the Board of Trustees and secretariat in performing their evaluation, the Board and the secretariat carry out the following activities

(a) Members of the Board of Trustees should be independent experts acting in their personal capacity.

The chairpersons encouraged the Board of Trustees of the Voluntary Fund to continue discussions on ways to deepen their cooperation.

The following paragraphs provide information on action taken by the secretariat and the Board of Trustees to implement those recommendations.

(a) At its annual session the Board of Trustees reviews the situation of all travel and project grants allocated in previous years.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT FOR THE Eleventh SESSION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES of the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund ON CONTEMPORARY FORMS OF SLAVERY

The revised INSTRAW statute reconstituted the Board of Trustees into the current Executive Board, composed of representatives of 10 Member States elected by the Economic and Social Council for three year terms.

RECOMMENDATIONS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES of the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund ON CONTEMPORARY FORMS OF SLAVERY AT ItS TenTH SESSION

Interested governments are invited to contact the secretariat of the Fund for any information concerning the tenth session of the Board of Trustees.

Contributions that cannot be recorded prior to the eleventh session of the Board of Trustees will be considered at its next annual session.

Through the aforementioned report of the Director of UNIDIR, the Board of Trustees recommended continuation of a subvention from the United Nations regular budget.

Financial situation of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and related conclusions at the forty third session of the Board of Trustees

Some new contributions and pledges have been made for the eleventh session of the Board of Trustees (see annex II, sects. B and C).

Admissible applications will be examined by the Board of Trustees at its next session, scheduled to be held from 30 January to 3 February 2006. At that session, the Board of Trustees will adopt recommendations for grants, which will then be submitted for approval to the High Commissioner for Human Rights on behalf of the Secretary General.

Applications for grants amounting to approximately US 721,349 were received in 2005. The Board of Trustees was able to recommend only about US 230,130.

Likewise, the implementation of this recommendation will require guidance from the Board of Trustees, and a background paper will be prepared for its next session.

It requests the University Board of Trustees and Administration to follow up the implementation, as soon as possible, of the RESOLUTIONS contained in the report.

Such resources will also be used for the allocation and payment of travel grants and the holding of the annual sessions of the Board of Trustees.

9. Urges the Board of Trustees of the Institute to complete expeditiously the implementation of the recommendations of the Board of Auditors made in respect of the biennium 2002 2003 See A 60 113, annex, sect. IV.G.

The Fund is administered in accordance with the financial regulations of the United Nations by the Secretary General, with the advice of a Board of Trustees.
