q) Enact and enforce legislation to guarantee the rights of women and men to equal pay for equal work or work of equal value

While the report recommended that the right to equal pay for work of equal value be moved to the Employment Standards Act, the Government's preference is to maintain the current protection in human rights legislation, which provides protection for equal pay for similar or substantially similar work.

If in spite of Latvia's legislation stipulating equal pay for equal work there was still a pay differential between men and women, the country clearly needed structural reform with changes to define that equality in the terms of the Convention.

4) Monitoring the advancement of equal representation for women, and the implementation of the relevant legislation, including in governmental tenders

Parliament has been kept informed on a regular basis of the progress made in implementing the Equal Pay Action Plan.
