As a country benefiting from uses of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, Thailand supported the right of all States to engage in research, production and utilization of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without discrimination, as provided under article IV of the Treaty.

However, they can also be utilized for prohibited purposes if in a good state of repair and integrated in a production line in a suitable environment.

A fissile material cut off treaty banning future production of fissile materials for weapons purposes would have a positive effect on non proliferation and disarmament efforts.

It was also imperative to end the deadlock at the Conference on Disarmament and start negotiations on prohibiting the production of fissile material for weapons purposes.

In Poland apos s view, such potential can be found in the cut off in the production of fissile material for weapons or other military purposes.

The States parties reaffirm their inalienable right to engage in research, production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without discrimination and that free and unimpeded and non discriminatory transfer of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes to all States parties should be fully ensured.

The non aligned States parties reaffirmed the inalienable right of States parties to engage in research, production and use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes without discrimination.

Furthermore, pursuant to the 1961 Convention, the Board, among its other duties, administers an estimates system whereby the cultivation, production, manufacture, trade and distribution of drugs is limited to an adequate amount required for medical and scientific purposes, and ensures their availability for such purposes.

Molecular biology research has generated findings that are being applied in both developed and developing nations for purposes related to improving production in agriculture and animal husbandry, enhancing industrial production with essentially pollution free techniques, remediating polluted marine and terrestrial environments, developing new pharmaceuticals that would never have seen the light of day if only conventional chemical techniques were available, and for many other purposes.

The time had also come to start negotiations on a treaty banning the production of fissile materials for weapons purposes and also, ideally, addressing the issue of existing stocks.
