This week, I am joining leaders from the worlds of business, government, politics, the arts, and academia at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss the risks that the world faces. Of course, determining which challenges merit the most attention will not be easy.

Given the duress that we're feeling environmentally in these times, it is time for scientists to reach outward, and time for those outside of science to reach towards academia as well.

The effective participation of the private sector, academia and local community based organizations in the development of integrated development policy would ensure the effective implementation and wide acceptance of strategies and measures.

(g) Develop strategies to increase women's participation in decision making in all areas, including in political bodies, economic institutions, academia and the media, and regularly collect and compile data to monitor progress

It is based on a global survey commissioned by the United Nations Volunteers as part of its functions as the focal point for follow up to the International Year, covering a range of stakeholders from Governments to the United Nations system, civil society, parliamentarians, the media, academia and the private sector.
